Over wintered chilli's and cross pollination

ok, so this may be a silly question but i'll ask anyway
so i have overwintered some chilli plants, manly Naga's and Habs so if the fruit on them had crossed last summer that fruit could produce a mongral plant and produce whatever but since i have over wintered the original plants netted with micromesh and self poll them surely they will go back to produce pure strain from the overwintered plant ..yes ??

It's the seeds of the plant that would be crossed. The original plant remains the same.

I have plants overwintering over the last 2 years and they dont cross polinate. I thought only F1 hybrid could do that?

even if they do they will be nice hot chillies!

very interesting, I was wondering the same thing,

Did a bit of research and as Zenithtb says, It is only the seed that are produced by the plant that is the "cross breed" not the fruits or the plant its self.

So each fruit is totally separate from cross contamination and needs to be contaminated in its own right.

So as long as your plants are separate this year, they should be back to the original!

correct me if I am wrong, but I guess if you are not saving seed, you do not have to worry about cross contamination?

yes, planning on saving seed on some of the overwintered and screening off and hand pollinating some of this years and also gonna have a try at crossing to see what happens, iv'e go the room now with the GH and plenty of micromesh so will have a play

No, anything can cross-pollinate, given the chance

F1 simply means that the parents have been specially selected to be crossed with each other, rather than a random cross
