Gerkins (Cornichon) in or out?

Last year I grew gerkins for the first time outside. They cropped but not as well as I thought they should, after the first flush the plants seemed to dry up. As I have a tunnel this year I wondered if it would be better to grow them in there?

Advice please.

I've got a few Gherkin plants on the go so would be interested to hear any comments too. Would rather keep space in the greenhouse for more melons and cucs.

I had mine outside last year and watched them very carefully - they didnt crop very well. I stopped looking at them and they went bananas... So this leads me to conclude that they are shy and will crop when you stop looking for fruit! I stil have lots of them pickled so am not growing them this year! I am trying achocha instead!

Greenhouse for me, I grow in growbags on staging and tie the vines to the high shelf above.

I grow some last year in the tunnel. Had a nice steady supply.
Anything remotely tender and it's very hit and miss if outside.

I'm growing outside as haven't got a GH or PT. If I have room I'll keep one in the conservatory and make a comparison.

Me too...one each of large and a pickling one in greenhouse and one of each outside..let's see how they fare...
