If you leave an upside down plant pot on the nest they will move into it and then you can either move it else where or tip it out for the birds .......

i have ants everywhere in the polytunnel and they have to go. spreading powder everywhere isnt an option for me but while browsing all the availiable stuff in the local shops one thing stood out.

Nippon Liquid Ant Killer 2 - it contains Spinosad which is listed as organic.

Its a thin gel you can put it into bait stations so its pet safe or onto a non porous surface for the ants to eat and take back to the nest AND THE LOVE THE STUFF! ha ha!
No powders or pellets contaminating the soil so can be placed right under plants and moved when you water.

I placed it in 4 places in the polytunnel yesterday at 5pm and they had a party eating the stuff so i guess its very sweet too and i had to top up a few times as they cleared the lot in 1-2 hours, now this morning and all through the day there is at least 5 times less activity already (80% reduction) and hardly any of those are interested in feeding anymore so it appears its working very well so far.

Spinosad is in many other products too, but i like this one as i can target just one specific insect with gel in a bait station and save the good bugs

More Spinosad info can be found here

might be organic but will kill ALL BUGS GOOD AND BAD, so please dont go spaying everything with it pretty please...... with a cherry on top if it helps.

Its like buffalo round the watering hole on a mini scale.

I went down to lottie yesterday, picked about 20 lovely looking strawberries to find around a dozen of them had been eaten by ants, the ants were still inside the fruit so it's off to the shop for some boric acid & sugar.......It's war!

My garden is over run with the little red blighters!! Boiling water does the trick but it does kill the grass around the nest. They also have taken to the sharp sand I laid my slabs on to stand a temp grow house on, when I started moving the slabs yesterday (got a nice 2nd hand 10' x 12' jobby now ) there was millions of the critters!! Aaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!
