How many sweet corn

Hi folks, how many sweetcorn can I put in a 60cm x 60cm square pot,I hear you can cram them in.

You may get away with 9......... 3" from each corner then 12" spacings.

The year before last I planted them at 7.5" spacings. It worked ok, but only really had 1 cob from each plant. The lower cobs were tiny. Of course watering (and feeding if the ground isn't "fertile") becomes an issue, the more you put in a smaller space.

This year I'm growing my corn at 12" spacing as BM suggests.

Edit: I'm growing squash beneath it all, hence the wider spacing than previously

But if you grow them too far apart they don't pollinate properly.

I grow mine 14"-18" apart and nearly always get a good crop, although still only one cob per plant.

I might try them at 12" this year, see how they compare

Mine are at about 12" apart. I was told that you can plant them in two rows and walk in between them for pollination, but it all seemed a bit OTT, so they're in 3 rows of 4.

I dropped mine off at the plot this morning; I'm hoping to put the out this weekend.

I will have up to 40 (20-ish ready to go out, 20-ish still small). Would it be better putting them all in a large block (I assume this is best for pollenation), or can I have two smaller blocks?

I think I may have overdone it!

I have put 1 row of Courgette, 2 rows of Sweetcorn then a final row of Courgette in a 4' wide bed so are pretty close together, about a foot spacing between each plant.

How big do they need to be before they can go outside? Mine are about 4-5" tall at the moment.

I've got some Minipop sweetcorn (nearly 20 plants), which I'm growing for baby corn. I've read somewhere (can't remember where) that you can plant them 6 inches apart and in a straight line as they don't need pollinating.

Not recommending you do this - just what I'm 'trying'.

Did some last year at 12 inch spacing. Harvested as the tassles begin to poke out and eaten stood on the plot. Beautiful!

I've planted out three times that amount Honestly, you can't have enough. The taste of them fresh from the plant is out of this planet. After eating home grown sweetcorn, then eating shop bought stuff - I'll never go back to shop bought corn, and will freeze any corn we don't eat

Edit: I've got mine all in 1 large block, some are ~ two weeks younger (ran out of pots )

Planting mine out tonight. 18 plants in 4 rows with row 1 & 3 having 5 plants and 2 & 4 having 4 so a sort of zigzag formation as the beds are only 1m wide so hopefully 11" spacings.

Well seeing as only one germinated from a whole packet of seed I think I'll plant it as as a statement

I grow mine at 15" spacing. I use two sticks cut to length and plant out using them as a guide. Straight lines isn't best as pollination isn't that exact.

5 sweetcorn in a small circle, some dwarf peas and 2 squashes planted in a 3' squarish slate crate that already contains 12 asparagus thongs planted a month ago that are doing very little.
Since I can't just leave the space vacant while the asparagus does it stuff, it has company and they all have 2 chances! This is not a recommendation - just the way I do things!!!!
