Hi all just found this forum seems a good place to get some advice from.
I just moved closer to the southeast coast about 1km .and started my new patch . problem is im not to sure on the last frost here and what to beleave . iv had one guy say we dont get frost here from march . and another person tell me not to plant out till may 13th . i started all my crops in feb in the greenhouse . but my runners and cours are getting pritty big and really should be planting out .see pics . so do you guys/girls think its safe from frost being so close to the sea ? and will just one frosty night kill off bigish runners ?

    cheers dave

    HI Dave,

    Welcome to the vine.

There has been a lot of discussions about last frosts latley and when things can go out. www.metcheck.com is goods for frost warnings etc

Where are you? Some other grape may be closer to you and able to give you more info. I have been told end of May for me..

    Happy growing, Mandy

I'm in South-East London, so we're pretty warm compared to some areas, and we had frosts in the middle of May last year - so that's some kind of indication for you. I would expect, as you say, that the coastal location gives more protection compared to inland, but even so...

Oh, and I put my frost info in my gardening diary - it's really, really useful to keep one.

            Hi Dave,
            Welcome to the Vine.
I planted my runners outside yesterday. They have been hardened off for a couple of weeks now. I will be watching the weather forecasts closely and if frost is on the way, will just tuck them up in my garage for the night. I am about 1/2 from the sea and nice and sheltered by a huge oak tree. I'm lucky don't seem to get much frost up here unlike down in the valley. I needed greenhouse room and they were the biggest plants, so out they went.

I used the link and my town was there - it's suggested last frost dates are earlier than my recorded ones (in several years) by about three weeks, so please be cautious.
