Hi all. I know that radishes are supposed to be the easiest thing to grow but mine aren't going well. They've started to flower and instead of producing a nice juicy radish all I have is a woody scawny root. Any thoughts on what went wrong? shall I pull them all up and try again?

My radish pots are sat on the side of the pond. From being small seedlings they are watered by being immersed in said pond until the air bubbles from the compost stop rising.
Binners try pre wetting your compost/soil before setting seed.

I had terrible trouble with spring onions last year, this year they seem to be going rather well fingers crossed.
I am going to get into trouble for this but admit that radish is one of the few plants I water from above.

Both, I water from above both before and after germination, after all sinking a pot into the pond surely must count as watering from above. Or maybe we should call it submerged watering.

Ah they are in a raised bed and were the first thing I planted back in early feb, I guess I thought they'd have plenty of rain with the deluges we had but I guess not. Gutted cos they were fancy radishes from the real seed company! Ah well, I'll stick in some more and hope for better luck (and water them a bit more too) Probably try them in shallow containers this time.
