Is there a way to kill of bindweed without contaminating the soil or damaging near...

This weeks hot and sunny weather have made the thing go nuts. The part of the garden it is mostly infested with it is mainly broad beans so right now it's an all out war with the two. Apart from pulling it up when ever i see the stuff, is there a way I can kill it off with out damaging my beans? or is it best to wait until the end of the growing season?

Put a cane in the ground next to the bindweed and let it climb up this, then mix some glysophate and paint on the leaves, wallah bindweed kaput

... then unwrap the bindweed and dunk it in a bath of glypho (a bit more thorough and quicker than painting it on)

Or keep pulling it up until it weakens and you harvest the crops - then you can dig the worst out.

I've been pulling it and digging it out for 4 years now. It isn't aware that it's supposed to weaken and give up

Ah - 4 years, well maybe it takes a bit longer! Mine was covered in the stuff 10 years ago but it is not nearly so bad now!

One year I ran out of string to tie up the sweet peas - so I used bindweed stems

Same thing here. It comes from the garden behind mine, which is owned by an elderly couple who has just given up with it. How much i battle it will always come back!

As with all the weeds on my plot I just keep pulling the stuff up the best I can - don't want to used chemicals and it's perseverance is definitely helping.
