Micro tom

Ok, so I'm a sucker for cuteness, but I just had to buy a couple of 'Micro Tom' tomato plants. They're about, oh, 8 cm tall and already covered in blossoms and setting fruit. I'm planning to keep them in the kitchen window.

I expect they taste rubbish, but with lows of 3 C and 2 C forecast for tonight and tomorrow night, they'll probably be the only tomatoes I get.

Anybody else grown or growing them?

yep im growing totem (got them reduced at B&Q @ 10p a plant i couldn't leave em there could i!) and im growing minibel (from seed!) - i bought some micro toms from a carboot a few years ago, and they grew to about 30cm/ 12inch and where covered in fruit and the taste from the toms was intense and sweet - unfortunately the seller couldn't remeber the variety!

Your plants look really healthy. I love the look of the mini tomato plants too, so cute. I've got some Micro Gemma and Micro Tom plants growing and I've had a few ripe fruit which is fun to have them so early.

Also growing several Mini-Me's which are grown from some crosses. The plant size is generally small but still assorted as are the colours, pink, yellow, red, chocolate, white/pale yellow. I'm looking for the smaller type plants, but it would be nice if they were a bit tastier too

Afraid I can't take any credit for how healthy they look, except for being choosy at the garden centre. How do the Micro Toms taste?

Multi-coloured mini tomatoes sound really fun! Are you breeding them?

I'm thinking that if these guys do well I might try a few other mini varieties from seed next year.

Micro Toms, to my mind they are not the tastiest although they have a fair tomato taste. Not particularly sweet and the skins can be little chewy. But they make up for a lot in being so compact and you can pretty much get a fresh tomato all year round by growing them in the house. The fruit last well on the plant once ripe too. I love growing them, although Micro Gemma (yellow fruit) imho has the better flavour.

I like Sweet and Neat too, slightly bigger plant with a better flavour.

Yes dabbling with breeding mini's, lots of fun

I'm hoping to make another sowing soon as I can from my overall favourites so far. If the plants from those are any good it would be great having someone else grow some
