Pead Off?

What's up with my peas? They are in a well manured, rested, fertile, good soil bed,with adequate space, some sun and some shade- possibly of very equal amounts in south facing garden, climbing sticks... they haven't died or shown sides of yellowing or anything, aside from a few tiny nibbles from slugs on leaves (I presume) but neither have they grown much yet?... They are just THERE...virtually same size as when I planted them :/ like ornaments!? The bed has been rested for months, but in growing season I have successfully grown peas there and they have grown rapidly in the past with excellent results and plenty of pods?Peas haven't been previously grown there in this same year, by the way, so not that...
I've kept them in completely separate place/bed to beans (they are in containers) potatoes and onions.
I have companion plants with them such as Marigolds, carrots, strawberry container nearby etc
What more can I do aside from shouting through a megaphone at them

Alot of my stuff seems to be doing this. My peas are still ickle and its taken months to get a lettuce to anything approaching eating size. Im convinced some of the tomatoes are actually a rare bonsai variety!!LOL
I def picked the wrong year to start growing veg judging by what others are saying!!

It has been a funny season. Many plants haven't like the cold nights we had after the early warm spell and have basically become stunted as a result. A check like this sometimes results in plants running to seed early which shouldn't be a problem with peas because that is what we want them to do in the first place. You could try giving them a wee boost with a foliar feed with Miracle Grow or similar.

My early planting are just the same the later ones seem to be doing much better, another six yards of peas nearly ready to go out.

There's your problem - they are socialising too much to work !

Seriously though, I have just gotten my first peas and broad beans through the soil in my pots, mainly with the aid of a heated propagator. So I am at least a week away from planting them out; my runner beans and mange tout came to nothing, so I was forced to buy some fasgold plants from Victoriana, and will have to resow the Sugarsnaps.
It just seems to be a hellish year for germination in some things, the temperatures are just all ski-wiff.
I noticed some gardens locally where they have peas and beans galore though, so my theory is that those folk either have used greenhouses, or must be chequebook gardening from garden centres.

Think you can shout loud enough for my sugar snaps to hear you too? Kelvedon Wonder and Oregon Sugar Pod are doing ok now that they've come up, but Sugar Bon have been nowt but trouble. Well, mostly just nowt.

I wouldn't worry too much GF, everything seems to be slow this year. My peas are not moving either.

Funny you should say that AP - I noticed one of my calabrese plants flowering and they are only about 8" high. I nipped the top off, so I hope the growth continues - they're the only plants the snugs didn't demolish.

Auntie Flo I think the word is 'snap' my calabrese have tiny heads on them and I know the plants just arn't big enough to support that kind of growth. I am just keeping my fingers crossed and banging plenty of high nitrogen feed at them to try and boost green growth.

I have to say though my Kelvedon Wonder peas are doing great should be picking next week, but why this is I am not sure.

Yeh, talking of running to seed, all this years perpetual spinach, Pak Choi and salad greens are running to seed ;(

It is worth mentioning though my broad beans doubled in size the nice week of weather and set more flowers than I can count and the French beans took off as well plus the rains come at the right time to swell up my shallots.

The entire season has just been abysmal this year. Pretty much everything is taking a hit. The last two weeks crazy heat and sun perked some stuff up but then it became bad again and everything has just slumped.

Am i the only one that seems to be hving success with peas this year - one lot of mine are full of flowers and then the next lot are just about to flower!

However i agree with you on the other crops - both my pak choi and raddish have both gone to seed

Weird year alright....
Some of my turnips have bolted but my parsnips are flying
Lost loads of mixed salads showings that bolted overnight but have great growth in all alliums
