Blimey - I've still got some in the freezer from 3 plants last year and that was after giving tonnes away, loads of chutney etc, cakes and 1001 other ways of using them us fresh on pretty much a daily basis. Only planting a couple out this year but have a couple more in case they get slugged.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

No, not in mine - the only thing the same in my chutneys is onions.

Agreed, RL, I wondered where the onions had gone too!

Has anyone tasted them raw? I wondered if they could be used as a replacement for cucumber on salads or sarnies.

Courgettes are fine raw, especially the small ones - they're quite sweet.

Oh lovely, I have a sweet tooth so looking forward to trying them, are they best peeled as I believe it is the peel on cucs that can cause heartburn.

well i dont know how anyone like courgettes at all - i find them tastless, with a hint of bitterness (but ive only tried them roasted - so maybe its me being narrow minded).

But im growing them this year and i will see how i take to them in sauces ect.

I just pick them and eat them as they are, straight off the plant sometimes! You do need to pick them young though as the peel thickens and toughens with age.
I've just remembered one my favourite ways of eating them and I want one now!!
Thinly slice them horizontally. Dust them with flour and shallow fry them until the flour forms a crust (or deep fry in a light batter but that's more hassle), Then sprinkle them with parmesan (not the dried stuff in cardboard drums) and scoff the lot.

I have ten squashes altogether. All at varying stages of development. A bit confused looking at the moment though, what with the weather.

I'm still on one plant. And that's not growing at all. I've just sown eight, four green, four yellow, we'll see if these ones can stay alive and not get eaten....
