My dwarf french beans are about a foot high and my runners are about 4 feet. I put up netting to protect them from the sun and it also protected them from the strong winds we had. I've just sown some more french beans because I thought my first lot were a gonner as they were surrounded by thistles (the old neighbour next door allowed them to grow and seed). But I weeded today and the dwarf beans seem quite sturdy if a little small. Something's had a nibble at one of them but the mange tout I planted have been eaten to the ground. These are planted on my old shared plot except for the runners. I've also sown two other different types of beans as I would like to try to dry some for this winter.A weed is a plant that has mastered every survival skill except for learning how to grow in rows

I only grow runners, at the moment my first setting put down on the 17/04 are between 4ft and 7ft. The second setting put down on the 06/05 are anywhere between 1 and 3 foot. One has buds on so hopefully beans in about a month.

Runners aren't bad (although refusing to climb the poles, preferring to wrap themselves around neighbouring plants instead) but the wussie frenchies are woeful again. Couldn't cope with the northerly breeze we had and are looking rather pathetic. Considering whether it's worth sowing more. Might invest in some wind break netting next year for the delicate little prima donnas.

Mine are at the top of 7ft canes...or are they 8ft. They have been outside in flower buckets for about 5 weeks and they are still getting battered by the weather...especially tonight. Have had a couple of meals off them and there are lots of flowers so hopefully if the weather picks up (not holding my breath) they will recover. Might start pinching them out again to try and beef them up a bit.

My runners were planted direct and I thought they were doing OK - bit like BM's, walkers not runners, but in my case they are speed walkers!
They range from 3" to 10" and some are showing signs of knowing what the poles are for....If the river hasn't reached the top of your step, DON'T PANIC!
