  • Brussell Sprouts from seed

I've tried growing brussels from seed 3 times but they just get super leggy then die.
As soon as they've sprouted I've got them out of the propagator, but then they grow an inch overnight!
    Any advice please

interested to hear what others say. Mine germinated fine then died in the heat of greenhouse after 24 hours when was away. Trying again outdoors in seed tray now but may just buy plants if this fails

I just chucked some in a tray and left em on corner of the aptio this time. I hope that will work as long as slugs at bay

Most Brassica's (and lettuce) don't germinate very well above about 18c I think it is. I have a shelf above my propagating bench and usually germinate them on there. don't get them too wet either.

I planted mine 1 seed per cell and left them in an unheated greenhouse. Germination was 100%. They grew on fine and are now hardening off outside waiting for planting.

Same here Alice, I think they must grow tougher up north. Plus starting them off in a warm polytunnel rather than a glass incinerator helped.

Me too. I do not have a heated propagator or a heated GH. I just sowed a scattering in a 4" pot and they came on fine. Pricked them out into modules and they are now awaiting planting out.

Mine are by the door in an unheated greenhouse, sown in a seed tray. They have germinated well and I guess now have 4 leaves each. What do I do next??

Harden them off and then plant them. You can underplant sprouts as they are in the ground for so long. I am putting mine under netting as i hate picking off caterpillars.
Just read the thread about hardening off though. Food for thought. Give it a read.
