Tomato armpits

Instead of nipping out the armpits on all of my tomatoes Ive followed the advice on here which suggested putting them into water and then transplanting to form additional tomato plants. Its worked really well and I now have several little plants which are ready for transplanting. I normally grow my tomatoes in Morrisons buckets. My question is - Will these little armpit plants reach the same size as their parent plants? (In which case I'll plant them up in Morrisons buckets.) If not what would be the most appropriate size pot to transplant them into? They are currently outgrowing the 9cm pots I started them in.

Yes, they'll probably catch up with the parents.

Yes, they will eventually grow to the same size as their parents. However, I wouldn't transplant them straight into Morrisons buckets cos that might overwhelm the roots. Pot them on gradually as and when they fill their pots with roots.

Thanks for the advice, I'll pot them up in 6 inch pots then move them into Morrisons buckets later then. I have to say I think its a fab idea for increasing your tomato crop - can't wait to have all those yummy tomatoes coming out my ears!

In my garden there are normally quite a few tom seedlings coming up in the greenhouse from toms that dropped from the plant last year.

Follow RL's advice pot on slowly. The final size will be set by the weather later in the year but if we have a latish summer you will be cropping from them well after your other toms have finished.
