  • Turks Turban Squash?

Came across these three seeds a week ago which I had forgotten about! Sowed the three seeds in individual pots in the greenhouse and all three have germinated.

Because its so late in the season I was wondering whether to grow one of the plants in the greenhouse in the hope I might get a crop.
Good or bad idea?.............I was really wondering about their growth habit and whether it would take over the greenhouse?

Snadge - last year and the year before I put pumpkins into school gardens in mid july, outdoors and they all came back - both years - to pumpkins. The plants were only about 12 inches tall/long - so my guess is yes, they should be fine IF we get a decent summer.

I've just sown a load more, in a heated prop, to try and fill gaps. Courgettes sown 3 weeks ago [not in heat] have already overtaken some of mine sown 6 weeks ago. So I say go for it. Worst case scenario you get smaller squashes that you can eat immediately.

Yes, I think that it will take over the greenhouse.

Turks Turban is Mr R's favourite, so we've always got a few in. They DO take over a bit though given the right conditions. We've lost a few pumpkins this year so I've just started some more, and some butternut squash. We were picking the BS into early November last year - we had 9 fruits (3 decent sized, others small) on one that only started swelling in September. I'm looking at extending the season at the other end this year as the start has been so poor. Raw/unchecked optimism is helpful in a dodgy year...

Love TT anyway - they have a v nice flavour. Look great too.
