When to begin snipping tomato plant leaves off?

Always get confused over this! Is it when the first truss has set flowers, or when the first truss has set fruit or when the second truss appears?

I know you then snip off all leaves below the first truss but when do you start this?

I leave mine till they start to go yellow and have obviously served their purpose (i.e. feeding the plant)

I dont think there is a rule that you have to remove them - unless they are looking poorly!

As RL above says when they have done their job it then allows better air movement.

This year though with the poor light levels it will pay to leave them on until the last possible minute.

I take them off below the fruit truss, as the toms ripen

I am actually running a test this year one one plant to do with leaves.

I talked to an old boy that used to live near my mum about gardening years ago and I recently heard he passed away which jogged my memory on something he used to do with his Tom plants.
He always removed most of the leaves and kept it as 3 arms of leaf on his tomato plants and everytime a new arm started developing he would cut off the oldest one and keep going like that. He swore he got much better yields that way so I thought well far be it from me to judge without first testing I am going to do this on one of my alicante plants I will try and get pictures and yields for the end of the season.
