I have pea pods developing on my plants but they look quite flat at the moment. Do the peas swell up inside the pods and develop later or has something gone horribly wrong??

My first attempt at peas this year and I have been picking them for a few weeks now. Sadly they are just about finished now so will have to dig them up this weekend ready for leeks and kale to go in.
They definitly do swell up and I was a bit surprised just how quickly. Particularly the Shiraz as being a mangetout variety I assumed they would be slow to develop the peas inside, but they seemed to be at least as quick as the early onward peas.

I've found with some varieties the pods look fuller than they actually are, so I squeeze gently to see how close they are to being ready.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.

I'm growing 'mange-tout' and tonight is the first night I picked 10 for cooking.
Usually they end up falling in my mouth as I water them
It is fab picking your own grown!Choccy
My favourite animal is steak...
