I have pea pods developing on my plants but they look quite flat at the moment. Do the peas swell up inside the pods and develop later or has something gone horribly wrong??
Nothing wrong at all kg, they're doing what they should and will swell quite quickly. I've had my first pod today, sweet, delicious and perfectly formed. Well done, you'll soon be harvesting fat pods.
thanks, thats reassured me no end!! The variety are kelvedon wonder.
Its probably abit daft to all the old hands but Im finding it totally fascinating to watch things grow!! Even knowing where veggies come from isnt the same as actually watching them turn into food!!
The best is yet to come KG. Wait until your peas are ready for eating, and you just have to eat them all, straight from the pod before they get anywhere near the kitchen!! Enjoy
My first attempt at peas this year and I have been picking them for a few weeks now. Sadly they are just about finished now so will have to dig them up this weekend ready for leeks and kale to go in.
They definitly do swell up and I was a bit surprised just how quickly. Particularly the Shiraz as being a mangetout variety I assumed they would be slow to develop the peas inside, but they seemed to be at least as quick as the early onward peas.
I've found with some varieties the pods look fuller than they actually are, so I squeeze gently to see how close they are to being ready.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.
