Hmmm, if yours are that far, and you're still saying you're a full month behind, I really do think I should just dig mine up, and plant something that stands more of a chance of producing.

My biggest is still a little smaller than SIMON&JAYNE's posted above, and it's a good few inches taller than the others, and some are just puny.

Should I just call it quits?

No, not at all. I was early last year, and the weather was very good when it needed to be. I was harvesting corn earlier than others on our site; so ignore my comments about being behind. I just meant from being so early last year. Ours have grown a lot in the last two weeks - there were no cobs forming last time I looked. Still time for yours. Good luck!

Mine are barely 6 inches high. Defiantly not going to get a crop from them this year =p

Hi all (long time no post). My sweetcorn (Ealibird) are now around 2 foot tall (the best) down to about 1 foot (second sowing), as below.

There are flowers forming on the two best looking, though I'd hoped for a little more height by now.

Pretty happy for a first attempt though. Didn't expect the mini-shoots at the bottom - are these ok to leave or should I remove to force the energy into the main stem?

Flower starting to come out the top of my tallest. I gave up on my very smallest, and popped some lettuce in instead (hopefully they'll appreciate the shade from the other corn).

I have another small one I was going to dig up, but I left it as it has really interesting variegated/stripey looking leaves, so I thought I'd let it get a bit bigger to see what it looks like. Knowing my luck it's probably a disease it'll pass on to the rest.

I put some in with other things in a raised bed!
                  They're in there somewhere!

On the bright side I have very few weeds in my raised beds! There's no room for them!

                            Niall's Garden

I posted a picture of my corn from 4 days ago. I didn't realise it was such a bad year for sweetcorn, maybe I just got lucky or maybe it was something I did, but I posted what I have done to my corn this year in case one of those things, or a combination of them is responsible for some pretty good corn.

One thing though - The plants are all producing a second male flower, and in that flower corn is growing inside like it is part male/female? Is this common as this didn't happen last year for me or the year before!

Niall I loved reading your blog just now. You have done so well.

It's lovely seeing other peoples photographs to compare to your own, well done

One of my sweetcorn has shot up in the last 2 weeks but nothing else of yet.

I now have silks as well as the tassels - YAY!
I'm well pleased with the way they've sprung to life with a bit of warmer/dryer weather
and now I've weeded them I can see in which direction the few remaining, unslugged, squashes are growing
