Sungold tomatoes sweeter outside

I always grow Sungold orange cherry tomatoes.
They are the sweetest I have ever found.
I guess the supermarkets don't use them as the skins split very easily.

I usually grow them outdoors, but have a grow bag with three in the greenhouse to get early sweets.

The outdoor ones always seem sweeter, anyone else notes this ??

Also different suppliers packets of Sungold often seem slightly different somehow.

I think all tomatoes taste better when grown outside...tougher skins admittedly.

split skins are irregular watering...especially awkward to achieve consistancy with your grow bag.

Easy to save seed from Sungold...choose a good plant and disease free early fruit and spread seed on kitchen paper (don't really need to ferment them)

Sungold still my families favourite to have by backdoor to eat on the way past...like little sweets!

Almost all Toms are self fertile.

I wouldn't worry too much about f1 in this instance.....mine have always worked fine.

Worth as try as the seeds cost a fortune.

I was determined to grow Sungold this year. I'm sure I bought a packet of seeds and I was sure I'd sown them, but I can't find them anywhere so I can't have! Senior moments, love 'em.

I grew them for the first time last year after reading all the fab reviews by peeps on here.

I was really disappointed by their flavour, they were pretty bland and the skins were really tough. They were grown in the greenhouse.

I'm growing them again this year, hoping last year was a fluke.

Most people whne they first grow Sungold pick them to early I think its was Chris who did it last year.

The turn a yellow and peolpe pick them thinking they are ripe but if you leave them they go a wonderful dark orange and then they are much sweeter.

Yes I did that to begin with....it was the thick skins that really spoilt them for me though.

I don't want to be a party pooper but as April to July are completely submerged (at list here) I think the outdoor toms will probably be on the bland side (if the blight decide not to pop for an early visit that is).

I love Sungold and Suncherry their red sister.
