'blind' tomatoes

Having planted out my outdoor toms, I noticed that every one had produced one cluster of flower, then no growing tip. Could it have been caused by 'stress' before they were potted on? I had to leave them in 3in pots for a couple of weeks after I had done the greenhouse plants, but I seem to remember reading last year, that they shouldn't be put into final pots till the first flowers show. The greenhouse ones are fine, & they were randomly picked from the tray. Any ideas please, so I don't have a repeat next year.

what variety are they angie?

I often leave toms in pots way too long (sometimes they have fruit!) so I doubt that's the issue.

If you haven't arm pitted them, you could just let one grow on.

When you say you've planted them out Angie, is that in final pots or in the ground, and whereabouts in the country are you? If you put your location in your profile we can tell what your climate is like, although I dare say like everywhere else, it's probably been wet. Welcome to the Vine.

They are in 8in plastic tomato pots, in the shelter of the greenhouse. I'm in Berkshire, so fortunately have missed the worst of the downpours (we hope!!) I have no idea what variety they are as I planted an assortment & lazily, never labelled them.As I said, the ones in the greenhouse are fine - potted 2 weeks ago, & they were taken, at random from the tray.

I just wondered if they are bush tomatoes anyway, that you would expect to stop growing after flowers. We could have told from the variety name whether they were cordon or bush.

They are definitely cordon. I don't buy bush as they take up too much space.

More likely the stress of being planted out in this weather

same problem with some of our toms,i reckon its the repeated cold chills that they got after they had started growing well,i have three gardeners delight plants in the g/house @14ins tall and 3 more 4ft + right next to them,for the second year running we seem to need "swamp" tomatoes that will grow in the cold,darkness and wet of a british summer,up here we dont get a tan,we go rusty..
