Long storing 2nd earlies

Seeing as my maincrop Roosters have blight and my second earlies seem to have escaped for some reason, but will be lifted soon, I wonder is there a 2nd early variety that stores particularly well? I plan to have early earlies in pots in the tunnel next year so I wouldn't need to get all the way to next summer. If I could get a second early that stores well I might be able to beat the blight.

Could you not lift your Rooster first (slightly under-developed,but better than no crop) & lift your seconds in a few weeks when they will be a good size for storing ?

I had some Charlotte in a cardboard box in a outdoor cupboard (formerly an outside lav) that I forgot about. Stumbled across them mid January and they were still perfect; firm and waxy. They sprouted in February but just rubbed off the shoots and continued to use into March.

To store potatoes you must let the skins set. This means cutting off the haulm and leaving in the ground for a week or two. This is also the best advice for blight....cut off top- so spores don't wash down into crop, wait then lift, (wash) and dry. Store best tubers in hessian or paper in a cold but frost free spot, eg old dunny, as described by kestral.

However, the slugs will be feasting this year so don't leave them in too long. Also be careful that you check your stash often.... as if a couple have blight it will turn the rest to a putrid mess.

Thanks a lot. I was under the impression 2nd earlies didnt store as well as maincrop. Might consider that for next year. In the end I've lost all my spuds this year. But cut back the stems and will leave for a couple of weeks and see what lies beneath. Hopefully not Harrison Ford.
