  • My first garlic!

Today I lifted one of my November sown Iberian Wight garlic to see if it was ready, and was chuffed to bits to find this nice plump bulb! My first experience of growing garlic seems to have paid off.

There are 3 more of this type in the ground, and as with the one I pulled today the leaves are still green with no yellowing. Going by the pic above, should I lift those too or could they grow on for a bit more?

WICKED I wouldn't pull them up yet if you have no rust, die back or anything. Just watch they don't sprout from each clove.

Thank you I'll leave the others to grow on a bit more.

The Chesnoks and Solents I have growing are just starting to die back a little, but the cloves aren't as big.... definately going to grown Iberians again.

Think I might join you on that basis. My Chesnok was mediocre, but I thought Solents were supposed to be big.

Well done, that's lovely. As VVG says, I'd leave the others to grow on a bit until the tops die down, you might get some more whoppers!

I know exactly how Cazp feels. Was absolutely ecstatic when I lifted my garlic. Some were enormous, nearly every one had a decent size bulb. Will definately be planting some more come this November. : )

Given the foliage is all still mostly green on the others that are still in the beds I'm hoping they will all be a decent size by the time they are lifted.

Is it true that the size of the bulb depends on the size of clove originally planted?

The cloves I sowed were mainly large and seemed of good quality from the Garlic Farm, so I guess that has a bearing on the bulbs I end up with.
