Tumbling tom question.

My first time growing tomatoes and I have some tumbling toms in window boxes but Im wondering how much 'tumbling' they are supposed to do??
I only put 2 plants per window box and they are now massive with tons of foliage and flowers, so much so that the heavy rains are making them lean forward. Are they supposed to trail coz they look too thick stemmed TBH. (I hedged my bets and tied some string around them halfway up for a loose support!).

Yes, they are supposed to trail down over the baskets / pots. Just make sure your window boxes are well secured.

They are meant to trail but I sometimes put a few twigs under the main stem if it looks like it could break.

mine have only just reached the edge of the hanging baskets ... nowhere near tumbling .....

Mine are tumbling over and in my experience they can tumble quite far down. One of mine shot out quite long branch which I snipped off because it was casting shade on my other veg. Here is a photo of mine taken last month - three Tumbling Toms on top tier.

I never stake mine but I did have one branch split a little towards the end of the growing season last year.

Hmmm, I might keep my little string support then. Esp seeing as how mad they have gone (who knew tumbling toms would do so well in such grotty conditions!).
Already they are about 17ins tall and that far out as well, the window box is only 6in by 6in in depth so it is starting to look very teeny indeed!LOL Cant wait for all the flowers to turn into fruit!!
