They can be difficult to germinate, we have grown them in modules before (they can be too warm btw) but last year grew some direct - station sown (several seeds in the same hole).

What type of florence fennel are they, we had varying success with different types - we favour 'zefa tardo'. But I'm sure other folk will have their own faves.

I grew this last year, bit of a last resort - in modules in the greenhouse, but in around early July time - so it was really hot! They germinated and I planted them outside when they were big enough.
Am trying them this year - planted at the end of march and they are just showing through - thats with a heated greenhouse during the night.
      Hope this helps.

I planted a few of these as a trial in jiffys and the germinated really quickly. They are about 7 weeks on now, 6inch high and the bulb is just starting to swell at the base . They are, like most of my veg, in a pot.

planted mine out on the plot straight into a bed under a cloche about 2 weeks ago. all have sprouted now and seem to be going great guns.

like ddl i planted some last year quite late and still managed to get a good crop from them (think mine was start of july also) and that was also a direct station sowing
