Another Potato Question: Planting F.Earlies

I have used water retaining crystals for flowers but wouldn't use them for veg as they can keep the soil too damp and cause rotting. Anyway, I would be more worried what they put in these crystals. Also, if you have a North facing wall, these crystals will freeze easily but you could always experiment and see what happens

ooh, wish I'd read this 2 weeks ago re early earthing up!! my first batch of earlies and my mains are already in, and the ground is level over them. dont think I dare go in there with a spade now!!
