is it even possible to grow mushrooms from a pack???
You can get a crop but I'm not at all convinced that you can get more value of mushrooms that the price of the kit. If you know what you're doing then you're far better just foraging wild ones like we do.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
I've tried mushroom spawn, kits and injecting dowels into logs. The kits are the only things that have worked for me and there's not much of a return compared to the costs of shopbought mushrooms.
Like Alison ^^^^^^ I'm a forager, but only for the ones I know for certain are edible.
they cost me nothing so im going to blast them into some compost/manure if i dont get anything ive lost nothing i would love to learn more about foraging

I have mushrooms grow wild in my paddocks but I'm not game to try them.
I did buy me a box of mushrooms to grow - mind you they were selling them in the depths of winter and they need a bottom temp of something like 8C (not -8C) so I'm waiting till the o/night temps come out of the minus' and then I'm into it.
I know I prob won't get more than my money back, but I just like to see them growing rather than sittiing in a placcy tray in the fridge.

We grew some years ago in a polystyrene container. Disappointing.
Got a kit from the £shop a while ago and mostly followed the instructions and almost got a mushroom. I know the conditions weren't right for it where it was and so have thrown the contents into a big bag of bark mulch where they'll either rot down or produce mushrooms like mad. Probably the former though.
I'm experimenting with growing cultivated mushrooms in the GH - but it doesn't look very promising!!
I bought a punnet of cheapo mushrooms from a supermarket, the ones with the untrimmed ends and compost still clinging to the stalks. Planted some in the GH and also the cut off stalks of all the rest. Probably did this at the beginning of the year.
The shrivelled remains are still in the soil but no sign of any new ones yet! Don't think its working somehow!! This photo taken after planting - not today!!

I tried them one year and failed miserably. Chucked the pack contents out and the followwing year had loads of mushrooms where I chucked it!
