Yes please, an essay, that should explain it Lottie
I'm on my 3rd version of a slug deterrent so far this year - fingers crossed for this one!
You have no idea how many times I dream up the most wonderful invention but when I wake, there's just one little essential bit missing, either from my memory or in reality.
One day I'll be a Dragon in the Den
I've just bought more Broad beans for 50p - Franchi's Aguadulce Supersimonia, Green Windsor, Robin Hood and another pack of Crimson Flowered.
After all the discussion on this thread, I grew Sutton and Aquadulce Claudia last winter. Sutton are still growing in a pot and I hope to keep them growing through this winter too. No blackfly problems at all.
I've just put a few of the unknown ancient beans into damp paper to see whether they are viable - can't remember what happened to them last year
As for this year, if the ancient beans are alive, I'll scatter them wherever there's an empty patch. Also start a few plants of different types, every month from October right the way through the winter, some in pots and some in the ground, and see what works best for me.
Do you have any Broadie plans?
Alternatively, if I cycle to the Hill (4km away) tomorrow as planned, the Wyvale is an adventurous 6km beyond that on nice country roads for the main, where the crock of gold which is 50p seeds resides.
I grow 3 different coloured broadies no idea of the variety Two Sheds sent me the original seeds in August '09 but the all do very well, so i carry on saving the seeds from one year to the next.
