Can you eat these immature, or do they need to mature? I've a few, about 6 inches that are starting to rot from the flower end, due to the bleeding slugs eating the flowers off.

*bump*
Gotta say, really impressed. Have about 20 large beasts growing on the two plants I have, I picked 5/6 or so today. not sure if they need curing or what not, but we'll try them (will be a bit difficult as we don't have a kitchen - I've ripped it all out!)
Will report back on what they're like fried on a camping stove, and done in a slow cooker
FF - the ones I hand pollinated haven't set, rotted, or were eaten Zaz has suggested giving it a go again, so will do - there's some immature female flowers just starting to grow, so I'll try and get them!
