  • When are jalpenos ready?

I have 2 plants and lots of fruit on them. I'd say the biggest is just under an inch and all of them are green. Do they grow much bigger do you know? I tried one and it tasted more like a sweet pepper so I guess they are not ripe with the weather and all that, but just wondering what a normal size is? Thanks

I have some jalapenos on my plants that are 3-4" long, others that have gone red at less than an inch long. If you see slight "crackling" on the skin then they definitely need picking as they are just about over ripe then from my experience.

I have so many jalapenos this year I am going to make some chilli jam later this week.

Thanks a lot for the replies.
Actually I did notice some have that 'crackling' or striping on the skin. I guess with the weather they are a bit messed up. There really are tons of them but maybe it's no harm to take these off and see if it helps the other ones. Cheers

The ones with cracking can still be used but they won't grow any bigger.

yep when ive grown jalapeno's in the past, they have always started to have striping on the skin when they where ready for picking - so yours sound fine to me.
