Maybe this is a better example of the good & the bad

Yes, veggie - Nectar & the Cherries are fine. Skin? As normal.

LOVE your Wood. I would be up that tree if it were nearer.

      PS - friendly Forum!

Hi Cotswold, fraid I can't offer any advice, but popped in to say apart from the odd dull looking tom your crop looks great to me.

The way some have suffered this year I think most would be green with envy.

Thanks Cotswold Maybe I should say Welcome too as you've been a member for years but seem to have been lurking, as I did
Can't really help with your Toms, I'm afraid. I usually grow cherry tomatoes myself, quick to ripen and even quicker to eat! This year, I have some Heritage toms, supplied by one of the kind Grapes on here, and I'm surprised at how much longer they are taking to ripen. As they mature, they do seem to be losing their fresh bloom too (but don't we all?)
As Potty says ^^^^^ most of us are just plain envious of yours
If ever you come down to West Wales, you're welcome to shin up the tree!!
This is an exceptionally friendly and helpful Forum and I'm very glad you've joined in

Maybe I should add that some of us have a strange sense of humour!!!

Or go to Tescos - theirs are usually very shiny.

Does it really matter if they taste good I wonder?

I joined then disappeared for 5 years and I didn't really lurk either. In fact I have no idea why I came back at all - given the cheek that I have to put up with sometimes

You're right, RustyL, it s the banter that keeps me happy - even though I poke my tongue out at it most of the time
Sorry, Cotswolds, for going off at a tangent You haven't told us where you live - I assume it the Cotswolds! If you add it to your profile it'll stop us asking you again!!

Being a bit thick - can't see how to edit profile.

Must have been clear when first viewed.

It is confusing! You need to go to "Settings" , then scroll down to "My Settings" and "Edit Profile" and right at the bottom is "Location". No need to be too specific, its just so that we can take your local climate into account if you ask for specific advice.

Funnily enough, a few of mine are 'matt' coloured and thick skinned this year.

I'll just have to add a bit of 'Mr Sheen' to their feed!

Only confusing if one is blinkered!!

                            Thanks, veggie.

                                Hi Cotswold, I had a few non shiny ones last year, mainly with one variety, some were just dull with no shine and a few had more a look of a russet apple. Problem seems to be referred to as russeting or cuticle cracking;

“Russeting is characterized by a brownish scarring of the fruit surface, giving it a rough, clouded looking appearance. This is believed to be due to very humid conditions.”

I haven't really done anything different this year, but so far no sign of russeting.
