Organic control of Allium "White rot".

This is the second year of my trialling of this method of combatting white rot in alliums, and another resounding success for the method.
Previously, I used to loose about 30% of my allium crops to white rot. I have just lifted the last of my alliums this year and only one garlic head showed any sign of white rot.
There is still time this year for you to treat the beds that you intend to use for growing alliums next year, with ground up garlic cloves.

AFAIK, zaz is using that caliante mustard (haven't read the link, so it might be in there)..

I've used both - but the method needs a year between treating and growing alliums so I am using the treated bed for this year's overwintering onions. 31 days til they go in!

3 other treatments that appear to work - digging sand into the soil [unless you already have sandy soil], growing under a polythene cover all winter and caliente mustard grown and dug in before the onions go in.

My caliente mustard is bolting and has got cabbage white caterpillars on it *rollseyes*

... but I'll sow again in Sept and hopefully it will help with the white rot that is now in every bed of my plot

What a useful link, Realfood! Now I know what I can do with the packet of garlic powder I got from the spice shop. I only need the odd teaspoonful and now I can use the rest on the plot!
