is there any point of overwintering and how is it done

I still have a 2 chilli plants are there starting to show life maybe just maybe they will come through

Never overwintered a pepper, but i kept a chille in a pot inside the house for a couple of years and it just continually cropped , i suppose thats the beauty of central heating

Mine seem to have no life and lots of little flies in and around them. I take it that means that it hasnt worked for me?

Lots of little black flies? Fungus gnats. The compost is too wet

Hmmm, well, two survived the winter.
I say survived......
They lost most of their leaves and dont seem to have any new ones and they are smothered with greenfly.
Just found a ladybird larvae to put on them.
I dont heat my conservatory so I suspect that they just got too cold and are still struggling to get going.
I did some fresh as well so it will be interesting to see which wins.

OK, a month later and my newly sown ones are beating my overwintered ones by far, they just never seemed to get going.

My overwintered one's are outgunning my newly sown one's but quite some way!

Even though all the plants have had a few problems with aphids this year the new plants seem to be being effected worse by them. I think the overwintered one's were just more established by the time the aphids hit so they're handling it a bit better.

I'm going to try and save my chilli plants this year.

They have been fantastic so far, so I hope that by overwintering them indoors (away from drafts and cold windowsills) I can get a good head start on the new season and have a fantastic crop next year.

I've planted some kohl rabi and spring onion plants to stay in over winter and have just sown kale, spinach, pak choi and lettuce to provide some baby leaves , I have some chard plants which I'll keep in the bed as they spring into life again in early spring and provide some welcome fresh stuff. Makes it easier to keep the bed weed free as well and starting again in spring doesn't seem so daunting. If I can spare the space I plan to plant some broad beans in October as they seem to be better at warding off the black fly than the Feb sown ones, and I never feel like getting out there in the Winter months, it's dark when I get home

Starting to give it some thought now alright.... I believe some varieties are more suited than others but can't remember off the top of my head..... If they suit I think I might try Habanero, jalapeño and sweet peppers Pimento...

I over wintered one chilli last year. After two cold springs when I have struggled to get early growth, I will be overwintering every chilli and pepper I can from now on. If it works, I will sow replacements much later in the year when they have a better chance to grow away. As regards other plants overwinter, I rely on the tunnel.

I have four or five which are definite keepers. The rest, I'll make a decision mid October.
