Great thread this, and just on the basis that there's a chance I'll get a better crop next year I'm going to overwinter my 4 Cayenne plants, as well as trying to grow some real hot varieties from seed early next year

To be honest, it's not worth overwintering cayennes because they grow so well from seed and give a great return in the first year, although it's always worth a shot if you fancy a go. It's the super hots that you will get the most returns from over wintering because they are so slow to start and often only give you a few fruits in their first year.

This year I had most success with red and orange habs, lemon drop and roccoto.

My chillies went to pot when my dad died and then a move of house so I composted all plants however I'm just dusting off my grow lights and looking at my chilli seeds starting to get excited

I've still got 3 large sweet pepper plants slowly fruiting by the dining room window - they might be shuffled around the house a bit for Christmas

Yes, they are I do try to overwinter a few - if it works they fruit much earlier the next year.

Last year they got ditched because I was over run with fungus gnats - so far so good this year - I'm only watering from the bottom.

                    • I've put 5 plants on a heat tray inc a Cape gooseberry with t shirts shoved in too stop drafts coming through the window, it's making a big difference so far compared to the two that are in the other window with no protection they've started going brown

                            • Don't give Up, it's such a joy when you see that small green fruit grow and turn red. Even better when your brother eats it raw for a beer snack and steam comes out of his ears....

One of them (the red savina) now has around 100 flowers on it!
