is there any point of overwintering and how is it done
Great thread this, and just on the basis that there's a chance I'll get a better crop next year I'm going to overwinter my 4 Cayenne plants, as well as trying to grow some real hot varieties from seed early next year
To be honest, it's not worth overwintering cayennes because they grow so well from seed and give a great return in the first year, although it's always worth a shot if you fancy a go. It's the super hots that you will get the most returns from over wintering because they are so slow to start and often only give you a few fruits in their first year.
I believe some varieties are more suited than others but can't remember off the top of my head..... If they suit I think I might try Habanero, jalapeño and sweet peppers Pimento...
This year I had most success with red and orange habs, lemon drop and roccoto.
My chillies went to pot when my dad died and then a move of house so I composted all plants however I'm just dusting off my grow lights and looking at my chilli seeds starting to get excited

In the following link you can follow my recent progress on the plot
I've still got 3 large sweet pepper plants slowly fruiting by the dining room window - they might be shuffled around the house a bit for Christmas
Thelma, are they the sweet mammoth (sp!?) ? I wish I'd thought to dig mine up, I had fab crop with those this year and like BB it didn't even cross my mind!
I've put 5 plants on a heat tray inc a Cape gooseberry with t shirts shoved in too stop drafts coming through the window, it's making a big difference so far compared to the two that are in the other window with no protection they've started going brown
Don't give Up, it's such a joy when you see that small green fruit grow and turn red. Even better when your brother eats it raw for a beer snack and steam comes out of his ears....
