#2 A lot of mine have failed to make it to any size beyond 'cherry'. I've put it down to the peculiar weather as some of the later trusses are OK.Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet

#6 Potatoes - poor yield/size this year on every variety. Snap on the cherry sized tomatoes and on the courgettes. A truly miserable year really.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

I've grown Marmande successfully for the first time - one plant has got 7 goodsized fruit on it and in 4 years of trying I've never got Marmande to successfully fruit - must be the wet. On the other hand, my cherry toms which were very prolific last year, I've only had about 3 fruits off.

It's been a year of strange happenings.
Cabbages the size of footballs when almost everyone on the site have lost their summer cabbages to our favouite slimy marauders, yet my turnips are the size of ping pong balls at best.
Fantastic broccoli and calabrese, yet my radishes are bolting left, right and centre.
Garlic was fantastic tasting, but something weird had happened and I'd somehow ended up with multiple bulbs per plant.
I've been growing things on various scales for 20 years and this is the strangest year I can remember.

This is my first year of serious growing and I was worried it was me. However the beetroots, carrots and onions have been great. Also managed to grow some monster lettuce before the slugs got going. The Hestia runner beans in hanging baskets are also good since the slugs can't get to them. Did find one mountains climbing snail though.

we had three tom plants go "blind"during one of the cold snaps in the spring, the leaders wilted and no sign of growth from lower leaf axils(is that spelt right?),but the three "shirley" toms kept growing and have been massive, more like beefsteak toms, which i dont grow..this could end up being known as" the year of the daft veg" as there doesnt seem to be a lot making sense at the moment... but theres always next year.......
