  • Is anyone else such a plonker?

    What a twit.

This year I'm growing a new variety of white beans for drying and for some reason assumed they'd be dwarf like the cannellino from last year. White beans = dwarf
And of course they are climbers. So instead of climbing, they've just gone flop. Result (I guess) reduced yields from these beans and also from the flageolet and red kidney who have been rampaged all over!.

This is very embarassing as these Tarbais beans are the local cassoulet bean grown in every garden around here. Up poles.

So not only am I the mad English woman who grows veg in beds surrounded by paths and takes in the local feral kittens but who now also tries to grow her Bigourdan beans along the ground.

    Any other idiots out there?

It could have been just as embarrassing PP if you had put up poles and grown dwarf beans. I did that some years ago , so it's not only you

I planted dead seed potatoes last year. I'd left them to cook in the sun on the potting bench in my shed. Funny they didn't grow and was scrabbling around for replacements mid May.

I'm playing "guess what I am" this year.... Repotted all my seedlings into their final pots, labelled em all with nice neat little sticky labels that washed off with the first few waterings, DOH!!! Dumbass alert!! Beginners stupidity?? Or what?? Lol

Don't beat yourself up Lisa, if you did a search, you'd find lots and lots of people who've done just that!

a whole pile of plastic labels are in order i think, i had a similar thing last year but that was the winds fault my mini greenhouse fell over and all the seedlings i managed to retrieve were origin unknown... maybe i ought to give up, somethings trying to give me a message lol

Ditto. It's at its worst when my non-gardening neighbour asks me why I've got all that elaborate bamboo framework for those little plants...

                          Still infected.

Made jam this afternoon and after prepping the fruit and putting it in the preserving pan I realised I hadn't zeroed the scales so didn't know my weight of fruit. All is not lost - last time I wrote down the weight of the pan and put it somewhere safe for just such an eventuality (yes, I've done it before). But can I find the safe place?

Give up, find a more messy method of weighing and made the jam. It was only whilst potting up, I noticed that the weight of the preserving pan is written...

                          .....on the preserving pan.

I like the preserving pan one. Reminds me of happy times spent scouring the house looking for the car keys I had in my hand ...........

I have just returned from an embarrassing episode at the allotment. With the weather dry and the wind in the right direction for once, this afternoon was the perfect opportunity to burn the old pea sticks and blighted plant parts I've been saving. Good job I picked a barren area. I was a bit taken aback by the speed it went up (it was very dry), particularly so when the incinerator fell over, spewing out burning wood like a flame thrower. One piece set fire to the tyre on the wheelbarrow, and I had to put it out with the hosepipe.

                              No witnesses but embarrassing nonetheless.
