Celery Question

Yesterday I bought 9 celery plants for £2.50.
They are about 6-8inches tall.
Can I grow them in pots, whats the best compost and will it survive the winter?

Any help would be helpful.

Sorry Steve, I would have thought it was the wrong time of the year to be planting celery but I am no expert. Apparently it's not frost hardy.

agreed, wrong time of year.
They might do better in a greenhouse if you can keep them watered, and not frosty...

Sorry matey, should have responded earlier. It is really late to be trying to grow celery and as it is a biennial, it will definitely run to seed in the springtime. Celery is not frost hardy and probably won't last that long anyway. Best bet is to plant it out and hope for a few weeks of an indian summer

this bit always gets me:
"Use 7.5cm pots filled with multi-purpose compost and keep well-watered. Plants will be ready to go outside about five weeks later, when they're 8cm tall. "
mine never make it more than 4cm tall .......
