Cabbage white butterflies are still laying eggs on my p/s broccoli. Is it too late for them to hatch now, or should I still keep rubbing them off?

Personaly I am still rubbing them off. A couple of warm days would see them hatch.

I tend to assume while the cabbage whites are still trying to get in I need to keep an eye out to keep 'em out!

I picked 70 off my sprouts this morning. The robin thinks I am wonderful as they all went on the bird table.

I've had to put all my brassica seedlings inder insect nets and I'm still squishing green devils!

Thanks to all. I will net them when I plant out next year. In fact, I think I'll net the whole patch !!!

I netted but a persistent butterfly got in and I didn't notice until I saw one sprout plant that was just stalk. By keeping them netted when they were covered in caterpillars I was creating a lovely environment for them, where the predators could get them. So if you net, learn from my experience, and check them frequently!

Has anyone tried the garlic and chilli sprays against caterpillars?
