That's cool, I don't know wot you use your tomatoes for, as in eating raw or cooking but I've grown some principe borghese ones this year and they are lovely raw, rearly sweet and cook well too as they are like a mini plum one... Good luck on your tomato mission, such a shame bout the blight!!

Practically a glut! hahaha! Don't think i'll ever get over the thrill of planting a seed and amazingly something grows out of it

Probably not! 20 years down the line and I still get excited when a plant reaches maturity and I can harvest (I also get excited sorting my seeds and planning what I'm going to put in next season, I bounce down to the potting shed when it's time to start sowing, and I do a little happy jig when I see the first seedlings of any given variety...you get the idea).

Congratulations! I get excited about all the things we grow. It's just really satisfying!
I did have to laugh at whoever said 'even if you don't like them' because we were like that with radish last season!
Never grown them before! But they came up fabulously! We didn't like them much, but kept putting them in things, and chewing on them, because the d@mn things were so easy to grow! You have to applaud a plant that is easy!

My tomato is nearly orange all over It's a race against the weather and the blight but I think I'm winning. It's so exciting - way more exciting that watching tv I have several that are now more yellow than green, but if I can get just one to ripen on the tree I will feel like I achieved something I wasn't sure was possible - grown tomatoes from seed to fruit.

Right - I am declaring victory. I have a red tomato!

I think it's probably a few days from being fully ripe but it's red and I think I will pick it tomorrow. I'm going to take a photo first as this momentous occasion needs to be recorded for posterity. My first ever tomato! I actually have another 3 marmande that are orange, a few gardeners delight that are turning orange and lots of alicante that are yellow. The blight has met it's match with me and is not progressing (the alicante plant has a patch on the stem but nowhere else and the toms are not yet affected so I'm leaving them for now although I check twice a day). I'm still amazed at my success - it was only laziness that stopped me putting these plants in the bin on more than one occasion because I really thought they were dead.

Congratulations, TH, enjoy that one and any others that follow.

Sorry to hear about the blighted plant, hopefully it won't take hold of any more.

This is Wayne, progeny of Colin. I had to give him a name as he's my first, and you never forget your first

I have eaten a few tomatoes from plants bought at the garden centre and a few I've ripened indoors, but Wayne is my first plucked straight from the vine I would be lying if I said he was the best tasting tomato ever, but in many ways he was the best I've ever had
