Potato Blight - can you plant in the same place?

Hi all,

Just picked all of my potatoes at the weekend as noticed that blight was developing. I now have a free raised bed which I was hoping to plant my purple sprouting broccoli/cabbages in but not sure if it's wise.

It's my first year growing veg so not sure what you do in situations like this, if someone could advise that would be great.

no problem at all, as the blight is on and in the tattie stems,remove and burn them and all is sorted,the cabbage family is different to the tatties,so the blight cant survive on them,so plant away...

There will be no problem following with brassicas. However blight could live on in any bits of old potato left overs. Its a small risk but I would use another bed next year to make sure everything has died off.

^^As above^^ I would not risk using it next year just in case you manage to miss a tatty or two and they sprout next year.

Even if you get all the old volunteers out, you could still get blight next year: it's airborne and will come in on the wind

But as far as the original question is concerned, there's absolutely no reason why you can't grow brassicas in there straight away
