  • Is this normal?

Hi, I am new to seed sowing and am worried about my lovingly tended cabbage (hispi) seedlings. They have been pricked out and potted on a week ago and I have just noticed the seed leaves are starting to shrivel quite badly. Is this normal as the true leaves come through? My tomatoes and cauliflowers haven't done it though so getting a bit worried

Also, when pricking out, should you plant the seedling with the seed leaves resting on the compost in the new pot? or should you plant with the stem showing?

    Thanks for any advice

Hello Violet, I don't know about the seed leaves on your cabbage (but Hispi is a good variety) but if the true leaves develop allright I wouldn't worry about it. When you pot on your seedlings plant them right up to the seed leaves. I wouldn't say have them touching the compost but as close as you can get without touching. That way you'll get shorter , thicker plants. Problem this year is the cold weather. I usually like to get things outdoors as soon as possible during the day at least as seedlings do get a bit leggy kept indoors. Good luck with all your growings.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

      Hello violetsgarden

I'm no expert on when the seed leaves are meant to fall off but as long as the real leaves are doing ok I wouldn't worry too much
