Over-wintering a kiwi

Hi,

I have succeessfully over-wintered a Blueberry bush but I need some advice on over wintering my kiwi. The info i got with it says only to prune to control height. Should i prune it right back or the new growth or ???
Although it is said to be hardy, should it be wrapped in fleece and bubble wrap? Im in central Scotland so it getts pretty chilly up here.



Any advice would be great.

Is your kiwi growing in the ground, or in a pot?

Hello Coffeegirl and welcome to the forum. I have a kiwi that was planted out as soon as I had it and I never gave it any frost protection. It may be slightly warmer down here but I doubt it!
If your kiwi is still small and in a pot, you may need to tuck it somewhere sheltered for its first year. I wouldn't do any pruning though, not until next year

Thanks veggiechicken, I'll maybe just wrap the pot. Its become rather large so far this summer

Any particular reason for the pot Coffeegirl? Could it not go straight into the ground?

Mine is barely 15cms tall and in a pot on the plot. Poor little jennifer...

It shouldn't need any protection but probably would do better in the ground rather than in a pot. If you are concerned that the pot compost might freeze then you could wrap in fleece or bubble wrap but definitely don't put any bubble wrap round the plan itself as it will sweat and potentially rot inside as it can't breathe.
