  • What should my sprout palnts look like right now?

'Cos I'm putting alot of hope into the fact that I might get sprouts for christmas and they are the only thing that I've managed to keep going. They are about 2ft at the moment and no holes or damage to speak of.
    Will it happen?

Mine are just starting to develop tiny wee dimples on the stems, also about 2 foot. Last year we ate tiny wee dimples for Chrsitmas lunch Tasted good, mind.

Mine usually come to fruition when everyone is sick of eating them and they are 4p a pound in Tesco's!

I imagined a lump of pock-marked stalk on your plate

Mine look like cauliflowers - that could be because the sprout plants I bought (very hectic this year so didn't have time to grow from seed) turned out not to actually be sprouts

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

A couple of my plants are 2ft high with sprouts a bit larger than a marble, the rest are pea size.

Even the plant that I was going to pull up as the CWs had stripped it right to the stalk has started to develop caper size buds on each elbow (after a liberal application of comfy tea). Mind you half of these were Evesham Specials and we should have been eating them for the last month!

Mine vary a lot - some are still quite tiny with no sign of sprouts at all (assuming they ARE sprouts of course, the label's disappeared from that batch ), and 2 are so big I've had to make bigger hoops because they were bending over and snapping at the top... One of the big ones had 4 huge sprouts right on the top tip (I thought you picked from the bottom up??) and diddy ones on the rest of the stalk, and the other big one has mini caulis up and down the stem, presumably because it's blown? Oh the joys of choosing 2012 for your first year on the veg plot lol .

Of my six, one is suspiciously cabbage-like (very leafy, but also a bit leggy, so hard to tell if it's a cabbage or sprout or some sort of combination - grown from bought seed) and the others are about two foot tall with I think blown sprouts lower down. I'm just going to continue ignoring them.

Better go and have a close look. Think it's all leaf and no sprout at the moment

Mine are also about 2 feet high and even though the leaves are full of holes (I couldn't net them) there are marble sized sprouts on every stem. Fingers crossed for Saturnalia

Flo I netted mine but both my sprouts and Kale have been eaten a fair bit, probably down to me having the net too close to the plants. Even caught a caterpillar crawling up the outside of the netting one time.
