A possibly inane question about Shallots

Good afternoon all.

After a couple of years of (partially successful) growing from seed, I was considering using sets this year. My question is, from a single bulb do I get a multitude of shallots? I presume so as otherwise there would be no purpose in sticking a little onion in the floor for six months just to dig it up again, but, you know what it's like when you're confused....

Yep, each shallot set should produce a cluster of usable shallots

You are not alone...the first time I grew them I pondered the very same thing

So......if I wanted lots of big ones should I plant big shallots at wide spacings - and if so what spacing would make for the biggest shallots?

I have done mine at about 6-8" apart - I'm afraid my lines wavered a bit today as I wasn't really up for the lotty today.
Enough of that anyhow, what breed are those gorgeous eggs from? Please don't tell me Marans as I lost mine and want more...

The theory is that if you want big shallots, you plant small ones
Don't even mention the Maran's to VVG, pleeeeeeeeeeese

Thanks - the eggs are from my Marans, but this year I have been breeding chickens to lay these - I love 'em

What Marans - I need some more...had a copper black, wheaten and now only have my splash. Those olive ones are pretty too.

6-8" is about the norm, as far as I know.
