That would work too: the wind blows the bottle around, which rattles on the stick, which drives the mole away ..?

It really makes you appreciate food doesn't it? How much work goes in, and how can it be so cheap in the shops.

I don't think it is that cheap in the shops anymore...somehow when I started growing it didn't seem that viable but now really glad we don't buy much veg.

Lost a lot of broadies to mice this year ...greenhouse was over-run too..best bait is BB;s...caught 4 mice and a couple of voles and I was a bit upset but if they do that much damage....I have never seen mice attack the crop before like that (just the seeds)...perhaps it was infact the voles

It certainly makes me understand why farmers use so many chemicals to control things... not that it makes it any 'better', but at least I can empathise now.

Another solution is, buy a bottle of wine, drink wine (Hic) and half bury the bottle in the ground. The wind blowing over the top of the bottle makes a noise and discourages the critters.

Now I do like the sound of that roitelet - I mean, you'd need to drink quite a few bottles really wouldn't you, to make enough noise to deter the moles? And I expect they need replacing periodically don't they? Because they probably get dirty and stop making the right sort of noises?
