Garlic

Around about now - is the time that you should be putting your garlic in.

You need to split the cloves, and plant them flat end down - about 3-4 inches deep into soil.

I have found that between now and midwinter's day, gives the biggest final bulbs.

Planting in spring really doesn't work - get them in over the next few weeks.

I planted 4 cloves in a pot yesterday. I was planning on doing around 12 cloves, but I ran out of compost!!!!!

I've been waiting for ages to get my garlic in - the ground is still very wet. If it rains any more this week, I'll be putting them in modules!

You're psychic Zaz. I've had a bit of a bad back for the last couple of days, so the only gardening-related job I've done today is to split some cloves ready to plant. The tiny cloves from last year are in modules and about an inch high and I planted about 20 in a raised bed 3 weeks ago. Hoping for some decent sized ones next year.

Likewise, mine have been in GH in modules for a week & are about 1-2" high. Wasn't sure when to transplant as it's the first time I have sown them like this.
