Hi - probably a daft question, but when you plant your own shallots instead of shop-bought ones, are you supposed to cut the dried leaves off first? I stuck a few of my last year's shallots in to see how it goes, but it occurred to me that the new leaves may have a problem pushing through the dried growth... Advice pls??

Thanks AP - I was a bit worried about whether soggy dried leaves might rot new growth if we have a wet winter? Anyway, today seems dry so far (although I've probably jinxed it now by saying that ), so I'll see if I can trim them at least a bit, but if not, I won't worry too much then, thanks .sigpicGardening in France rocks!
