  • Planting own shallots

Hi - probably a daft question, but when you plant your own shallots instead of shop-bought ones, are you supposed to cut the dried leaves off first? I stuck a few of my last year's shallots in to see how it goes, but it occurred to me that the new leaves may have a problem pushing through the dried growth... Advice pls??

OK thanks, I'll go chop them tomorrow if it stops raining for long enough

won't matter if you don't, they will still grow so if it's wet, won't matter if you leave them

Thanks AP - I was a bit worried about whether soggy dried leaves might rot new growth if we have a wet winter? Anyway, today seems dry so far (although I've probably jinxed it now by saying that ), so I'll see if I can trim them at least a bit, but if not, I won't worry too much then, thanks .
