  • to edge or not to edge

now im in a quandary as to keep my beds as they are or to edge them at all. my main aim for edging was to tidy up my plot and make semi permanent paths thus making the whole plot relatively low maintenance. if this encourages even more slugs and snails to thrive then im thinking i should leave well alone. this year ive had bumper crops of most veg.

for those who have edged beds in hindsight would you have bothered ?

I love my edged beds & tidy paths but then it's personal preference at the end of the day.

My beds are edged, but that's soley so my kiddies know where they can and can't walk. They're also raised too. I've asked for another plot, which won't have raised beds.

If you lay membrane down for paths, or have woodchips - they all provide damp environments for slugs etc.

My bed has a duvet - seems to keep the slugs away

We have edged (wooden) beds at school, and yes, the slugs and snails like to snuggle in the gaps.

On my lotty I have permanent beds, but they aren't edged.

Well yes, VC now you mention it, you do seem like the teddy bear type! ;eek:

And no we don't do much edging. Last year we put spring onions along the edges and it seemed to keep the weed at bay.

I've been removing the ancient, rotting edging boards from my plot as they're full of slugs
