  • flooded plot again

big puddles on my plot today. so ive been channelling out small trenches to the ditch which runs along the allotment. it worked a treat. even cleared the ditch to help take the rain water away

my plot is on a steep slope so I don't have that problem but I do really sympathise with those flooded recently

Our garden isn't fairing well either, been looking at the onions poking there growth out of the puddles, looking very wet tomorrow as well! Had to anchor the poly tunnel down this afternoon after it went for a flight yesterday during the gales!

My veg plot isn't flooded but the next field is like a lake! The winds blew some glass out of my green house last night though

Ours floods if its heavy rain, as its in a dip and the council havent laid the pipes very well....we just make a channel and it drains away....Just happens to be where my overwintering turnips are though!

Have you thought about using raised beds hawthorns? It would possibly alleviate the problem as long as water didn't go higher than the height of beds.

i have got raised beds (not edged) pathways were under water. where the beds meet the 2 grassed paths which are my borders the water gathered badly

Our plot is a field and a half away from the river Avon. When in flood, thankfully it normally laps at the foot of the nearest fence posts. The re-opening Wilts and Berks canal is supposed to be using this length of the Avon! ! !

Off down there tomorrow to look.

                Cheers, Tony.

My garden has a slight slope and it now also has a pond at the bottom!!

Couldn't get out during the day yesterday for the wind/rain but I took this pic last night. I think rain has got to be the defining feature of 2012.

My garden has puddles all over it too, almost glad I wasn't well enough to do any winter crops this year as intended.

Don't. I'm not a happy hobbit. Plot now resembles a pond. I just need some fishies and froggies.

My plot has puddles all over it - like the idea of digging channels to divert the water though

i dug out 2 channels to lead the rainwater to the ditch at the bottom of my plot. i dug it between the end of my beds and the grass paths that flank my plot. it worked very well. my neighbouring plot are still under water

I never thought that living in scotland would end up as a bonus as the floods seem to mainly run out of steam at the border,we did have a deluge last thursday night when in came down so hard the guttering was unable to cope and rain just ran off the roof in sheets, all round the house, the river rose about 10ft + but as it is a spate river ,it all disappeared fairly fast with no damage,i hope you all escape the flooding we are seeing on the tv and your plots survive in good nick..

I'm not looking forward to going home Friday and having a look at the veg patches, think I may be trying to drain it over the weekend! Praying for a couple of weeks of dry weather and hoping that my onions and garlic haven't rotted!
