  • Blind Caulis

I seem to have a couple of 'blind' growing caulis - according to Hessayon sounds like Swede Midge

    Anyone else had this problem?

Had the caulis planted as seedlings in November that are looking OK but no heads yet

Loving all the digging I'm doing to get the plot in shape though...just not enough hours in the working week!

Hi BVP The other reason that caulies go 'blind is that they are planted too deep. Never plant deeper than the cotelydon leaves (never could spell that). Hope this helps for next time

Yuk! That looks horrible but thank you for the pic, as a beginner I'll know what to look out for now. Two things I've learnt this weekend now - the old boy next to me showed me what onions going to seed look like earlier .

            Errgh! Glad I've eaten already

My caulis didn't look like that , rather there was a couple of hugh leaves and nothing growing in the centre

Ive pulled em up anyway and noted some small white flies on the leaves.. the space is now being eyed up for some beetroot
